Al-Kandari: Kuwaitis are Sustainability’s cornerstone
EQUATE sponsors Careers 2009
Kuwait – July 29 – 2009 — EQUATE Petrochemical Company’s Human Resources Leader Yaqoub Al-Kandari highlighted the role of Kuwaiti citizens in achieving sustainability in all fields, especially in relation with the private sector’s part in Kuwait’s development and progress.
Commenting on EQUATE’s sponsorship of the 6th Career Fair (Careers 2009) under the strategic partnership of the Manpower & Government Restructuring Program (MGRP) and organized by Vision for Consultations during October 25-28 at the Sheraton Hotel, Al-Kandari noted that EQUATE’s sponsorship and participation in this event is driven by the company’s unwavering faith in the private sector’s role in developing the capabilities and skills of Kuwaitis wishing to join the private sector after obtaining university degrees, as well as diplomas and high-school education.
Al-Kandari added that EQUATE has many long term strategic plans, established by EQUATE Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Program, that include annual university scholarships for Kuwaiti high-school graduates and EQUATE employees wishing to obtain higher education, with all of which being in coordination with the Ministry of Higher education.
Al-Kandari explained that these plans also include launching a comprehensive internship program in 2006 to train students from the Public Authority for Applied Education & Training (PAAET) and universities within and outside Kuwait, as well as fresh university graduates.
Al-Kandari added that the company’s plants have so far received over 20 male and female students who received on-the-job training based on their majors, such as mechanical engineering, accounting, management information systems, chemical engineering and others.
Al-Kandari noted that although EQUATE is a relatively new company established in 1995, it prides itself with a manpower that includes over 56% of Kuwaitis working alongside more than 25 nationalities from around the world and providing EQUATE with an abundance of expertise in various fields.
Due to the significance of human assets as cornerstones of sustainability, EQUATE devotes much attention to attracting and training qualified Kuwaitis in accordance with their occupational roles, as well as granting them unique employment benefits, this has led EQUATE to winning the Award of Best Gulf Company in Recruiting Nationals, said Al-Kandari.
Regarding EQUATE, Al-Kandari said it is considered one of the world’s leading companies in producing Polyethylene and Ethylene Glycol and it is presently a joint venture between Petrochemical Industries Company (PIC), The Dow Chemical Company, Boubyan Petrochemicals Company and Qurain Petrochemical Industries Company.
Al-Kandari added “In appreciation for its sustainable development efforts, EQUATE has earned His Highness the Amir Award for the Best Plant in Kuwait; Gold Award in Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) for Gulf private sector companies; the Award of Best Gulf Company in Recruiting Nationals; as well as Kuwait’s CSR Award in the Industrial and Oil Sector.
