Voluntary Work Center holds 6th environmental exhibition
Sponsored by EQUATE Petrochemical Company, Voluntary Work Center’s Photography and Documentary Team kicked off the 6th Environmental Photography Exhibition during June 3-7 at Marina Mall with the attendance of Chairman and Managing Director of Petrochemical Industries Company (PIC) Maha Mulla Hussain.
The exhibition, part of activities for the 2008 World Environment Day on June 5, includes 192 photographs depicting Kuwait’s land and sea environment with the participation of 55 members of the Photography and Documentary Team.
Mulla Hussain said “This exhibition reflects a great combination of talents shown by volunteers dealing with the environment through responsible action.”
She explained that the event “also shows the level of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) involvement from EQUATE in both human and environmental elements.”
She noted “I very much appreciate the professional work I have seen from all participants.”
On his part, EQUATE Petrochemical Company Vice President for Technical Services Mahmoud Al-Qattan said “We are pleased to sponsor this event. It brings a great amount of value to our drive towards serving our community.”
Al-Qattan, who also heads EQUATE Social Responsibility Team, noted that this event “is a promotion of Kuwaiti volunteer talents addressing this very important theme and emphasizing our environment. The pictures captured by the team clearly show the beauty and needs of the Kuwait environment.”
Al-Qattan added “Our environment is full of life, however it is our duty as community members to preserve our environment and its inhabitants. EQUATE will continue to be valued player in this drive focused on environmental progress and community needs at large.”
The exhibition is aimed at increasing the awareness of Kuwait’s population toward environmental affairs, realizing the amount of natural beauty around them, preserving the environment through joint efforts, as well as eliminating pollution.
The Photography and Documentary Team is part of the Voluntary Work Center, headed by Sheikha Amthal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah. The center aspires to boost the sense of belonging in the society’s members and implement sound voluntary work principles and place social ties within a humanitarian frame.
The Photography and Documentary Team wishes to alert people about the significance of preserving the Kuwaiti environment through developing the photography skills of individuals through careful planning and proper training in accordance with international standards.
Due to its efforts in voluntary and photography fields, the team received a number of local and international awards.
Considered one of the world’s leading companies in producing polyethylene and ethylene glycol, EQUATE was established in 1995 as a joint venture between Petrochemical Industries Company (PIC) and The Dow Chemical Company with each having a 42.5% share in EQUATE, as well as Boubyan Petrochemicals Company and Qurain Petrochemical Industries Company which have a 9% and 6% stakes respectively in EQUATE.
