EQUATE emerged the winner for the first CSR Award
Kuwait – EQUATE Petrochemical Company emerged the winner for the first CSR Award in Kuwait in the category of Industrial and Energy sector. The Company’s President and Chief Executive Officer, Hamad Al Terkait received the award from Mr. Jassem Al-Khorafi the speaker of the National Assembly of Kuwait at a CSR Award assembly held on Tuesday, 22nd January 2007.
According to the CSR Award Committee, EQUATE was selected for the award by a jury which comprised of specialized academic committee including experts in the field of public relations and social responsibility.
Upon receipt of the award, Al Terkait stated that “EQUATE is very well recognized as a leading company in the field of corporate social responsibility through its ambitious corporate social responsibility programs. It contributes approximately $10 million to our society every year to promote various social and community activities and causes”, he said.
EQUATE was recently conferred with the prize and award of His Highness, the Amir of Kuwait for The Best Plant in the State of Kuwait. Previously, EQUATE also has won the prize of the Best Private Company with the highest Kuwaitization percentage. Hamad expressed his happiness and dedicated these honors to his employees who have taken the Company to such a great height. “Most of our CSR activities are conducted with active participation of our employees. EQUATE also collaborates with government, public and volunteer organizations for implementing its CSR programs”, he explained.
Al Terkait mentioned that EQUATE is a premier company in introducing researched corporate social responsibility programs in Kuwait. It has launched several programs to serve the society in general and its employees in particular. It grants yearly scholarships for high school graduates to continue their higher education through its cooperation and coordination with the Ministry of Higher Education. EQUATE also has its own community outreach programs which was launched last year with a highly successful campaign of breast cancer awareness among the society. We have also conducted a Plastic Awareness Campaign to spread educational information on plastics and its role in our daily life. Owing to the need for supporting government efforts to conserve electricity and water within Kuwait, EQUATE had introduced a water and electricity saving campaign in the year 2006. And in the year 2007, EQUATE continued with its Energy Conservation and Awareness Program with a self disciplined campaign within EQUATE premises.
On the other hand, EQUATE encourages research and development activities in the community by adopting value added scientific programs that serve the society as a whole.
In addition to these programs, EQUATE participates directly through its Corporate Donation Program in several social activities, environment protection, health center improvements, assistance for schools for students with special needs and in other endeavors.
Mahmoud Al Qattan, the Vice President of Technical Services and head of EQUATE CSR Committee explained that “EQUATE CSR activities are part of company’s business strategy advocated from the Board of directors and directly controlled by Company’s President and CEO”.
He explained that being a petrochemical company which has no direct interaction with general public, CSR activities for EQUATE is beyond philanthropy and charity. It is a clear program integrated within our strategic objectives based on social commitment, sound values and a long-term approach aiming for a positive contribution to the development of society.
EQUATE has established a researched CSR policy and it is communicated to all employees and stakeholders to raise awareness and to be observed by all.
