EQUATE & KU’s engineering faculty sign MoC

EQUATE Petrochemical Company and Kuwait University’s College of Engineering and Petroleum signed on Thursday March 6, 2008, a Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) to strengthen and boost ties in academic and industrial fields.

The MoC was signed by EQUATE’s Vice-President of Technical Services Mahmoud Al-Qattan and the college’s Dean Dr. Taher Al-Sahhaf with the purpose of facilitating current and future collaboration between the two sides.

Speaking during the signing ceremony, Al-Qattan outlined EQUATE’s history since its establishment 10 years ago, noting that it has become one of Kuwait’s most successful private industry companies.

He explained EQUATE’s Corporate Social Responsibility Committee (CSR) program which stresses the “Value of being a Valued Neighbor” through direct involvement in the society, such as launching targeted programs for the community and establishing an internship program for Kuwaiti university students.

He added that EQUATE was the “Winner of the Kuwait CSR Award for the Industry and Energy Sector for the year 2007,” and was also previously recognized as the Gulf’s best private company in terms of hiring nationals who comprise 59 percent of the company’s manpower.

While saying EQUATE’s seeks to benefit from the graduates of College of Engineering and Petroleum, Al-Qattan noted that this MoC was only the beginning of collaboration in relevant fields.

On his part, Al-Sahhaf hailed cementing ties with EQUATE as the college had the goals of qualifying engineering students to work in relevant sectors and holding senior positions at prestigious companies, as well as playing a leading community role.

He lauded EQUATE’s overall moral and financial support to the college in accordance with its CSR program.

The agreement covers, but not limited to, sponsoring students senior projects, establishing and/or maintaining existing labs, as well as providing practical industrial training and workshops to engineering students under the umbrella of EQUATE’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).

In addition, EQUATE will  start launching various awareness campaign programs within KU premises with the help of College of Engineering and Petroleum. Also, the company will be participating in the college’s career fairs, supporting faculty members to conduct research/consultations  that are of interest to EQUATE, as well as a number of other issues.
