Kuwait – 16 August 2014 — EQUATE Petrochemical Company, Kuwait’s first private sector petrochemical company, received the President’s Award 2014 from the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE).

Commenting on this recognition, EQUATE President & CEO Mohammad Husain said, “Overall compliance and development of environment, health and safety (EH&S) practices are cornerstones of the overall sustainability program outlined by EQUATE’s strategy.”

Husain noted, “Cooperation between ASSE and EQUATE is a manifestation of our tagline ‘Partners in Success’ as the association plays a critical role in identifying relevant EH&S principles, guidelines and applications to be followed by industrial entities from around the world.”

Husain added, “Due to such compliance by EH&S best practices, EQUATE has received His Highness the Amir Award for the Best Plant in Kuwait; American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) Gold Award; Oil & Gas (O&G) Magazine Best Implemented Environmental Program; Middle East Chemical Week (MECW) Plant of the Year Award, as well as launching the Middle East’s First Plant Water Recycling project and Kuwait’s First CO2 Recovery Project. In addition, EQUATE is the first Kuwaiti organization to receive the certification and accreditation of Responsible Care (RC) which is an international voluntary initiative of the global chemical industry to safely handle products through all product phases.”

Husain extended utmost appreciation to all EQUATE employees and contractors who played a role in attaining this prestigious international award.

On behalf of Husain, the award was received by EH&S Leader Mohammad Al-Shamary from AASE President Kathy Seabrook during an event in the United States of America.

Established in 1995, EQUATE is an international joint venture between Petrochemical Industries Company (PIC), The Dow Chemical Company (Dow), Boubyan Petrochemical Company (BPC) and Qurain Petrochemical Industries Company (QPIC). Commencing production in 1997, EQUATE is the single operator of a fully integrated world-scale manufacturing facility producing over 5 million tons annually of high-quality petrochemical products which are marketed throughout the Middle East, Asia, Africa and Europe.
