Kuwait – November 27 – 2011 –– EQUATE Petrochemical Company earned the Middle East Chemical Week’s “Plant of the Year 2011 Award” organized by Petchem Arabia and the UK-based World Refining Association.

This award was granted to EQUATE in recognition for its world-class operational excellence and exemplary environmental contributions. This is an excellent recognition of EQUATE’s safe and reliable operations, as well as its environmental contribution.

On this occasion, EQUATE President & CEO Hamad Al-Terkait said, “To achieve Environment, Health & Safety (EH&S) excellence, EQUATE has developed its own set of relevant programs, objectives and goals which are regularly tracked and reported. These programs are not only related to business efficiency, they are also relevant to the employees and the community’s overall health, safety and pollution prevention, as well as preserving valuable natural resources.”

Earlier in 2011, EQUATE became the first Kuwaiti company to earn the internationally recognized Responsible Care accreditation and certification.

Established in 1995, EQUATE is an international joint venture between Petrochemical Industries Company (PIC), The Dow Chemical Company (Dow), Boubyan Petrochemical Company (BPC) and Qurain Petrochemical Industries Company (QPIC). Commencing production in 1997, EQUATE is the single operator of a fully integrated world-scale manufacturing facility producing over 5 million tons annually of high-quality petrochemical products which are marketed throughout the Middle East, Asia, Africa and Europe.
