Kuwait – June 1 – 2011 — EQUATE Petrochemical Company emerged, for the third consecutive year, as the Gold Award winner in the Manufacturing (Hydrocarbon) Category of the prestigious Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Excellence Award 2011.

On this occasion, EQUATE President & CEO Hamad Al-Terkait expressed utmost pride over “this success that clearly reflects EQUATE’s employees commitment and implementation of HSE best practices that are a core element of our business conduct at all time as such a thing was only achieved through innovative commitment to execute HSE programs and initiatives, Six Sigma projects and decreasing Recordable Injury Rate (RIR). Through such unwavering commitment, excellence has become a strongly embedded characteristic at EQUATE.”

“Through unwavering commitment, EQUATE achieved close to 25 Million Safe Work Hours (SWH) in 2010, which is a true World Class record. In addition, EQUATE is the first Kuwaiti company to receive Responsible Care certification and accreditation which is living proof of our commitment to ensure the wellbeing of all our surroundings” noted Al-Terkait.

On his part, EQUATE Environment, Health & Safety (EH&S) Department Leader Faisal Malallah said, “To sustain its continuous success, EQUATE launched a number of EH&S initiatives, such as the Middle East’s first plant water recycle project, Kuwait’s first CO2 recovery project, Kuwait’s first seawater cooling towers, an advanced Sulfur Recovery Unit, and an in-house developed Emergency Services System. In addition, EQUATE implements its own unique set of EH&S policies, guidelines and regulations that go beyond what is required by Kuwait’s regulatory bodies.”

The award is organized by the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) Kuwait Chapter as part of the ASSE Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Excellence Awards using top-notch international measures for scoring and valuation.

In recognition of its sustainability achievements, EQUATE has earned several prestigious honors, including His Highness the Amir Award for the Best Plant in Kuwait; the Oil and Gas Middle East Magazine’s CSR Award; the Gold Award in Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) for Gulf private sector companies; the Award for Best Gulf Company in Recruiting Nationals; as well as Kuwait’s CSR Award in the Industrial and Oil Sector. In addition, EQUATE has received the Highly Commended Best Community Program Award during the First Middle East CSR Award Summit.
