Kuwait – September 16 – 2013 — The Ministry of Health and EQUATE Petrochemical Company have inaugurated the radiation therapy and leukemia treatment wards at Kuwait Cancer Control Centre (KCCC) under the patronage of Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs & Minister of Health Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah.

On this occasion, Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah said, “The renovation and restoration of the two wards in the radiation therapy building at KCCC is a new addition and part of developing specialized treatment delivered to patients suffering from different types of cancer throughout Kuwait.”

The Minister added, “The project was executed in line with the Ministry of Health’s (MoH) vision to prevent and battle cancer, as well as continuous development of specialized medical care in accordance with latest international standards through an integrated system for prevention and treatment as cancer is one of the major challenges facing the medical body. For that, MoH has listed such matters on top of priorities relevant to structural growth and health support strategies as part of the ministry’s framework and Kuwait’s development plan.”

The Minister expressed utmost appreciation and gratitude to EQUATE for its support to Kuwait’s health and medical system in cooperation with MoH.

On his part, EQUATE President & CEO Mohammad Husain said, “EQUATE always ensures supporting sustainability efforts within and outside Kuwait, as the company focuses through its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Program on matters of health, education, environment and human resources through a number of initiatives with relevant stakeholders that include MoH which has cooperated with EQUATE in launching a number of medical and awareness programs for Kuwait’s population, citizens and expatriates alike, all of which  have manifested EQUATE’s tagline of ‘Partners in Success.’ EQUATE has adopted this project as part of initiatives in cooperation with MoH as both sides understand its significance in terms of medical and humanitarian perspectives. All matters relevant to the wards’ renovation and restoration were executed in collaboration with MoH during a period of over 18 months, during which both wards were provided with equipment in accordance with specifications provided by MoH that deserves utmost appreciation for its efforts in all fields.”

In addition, KCCC Director Dr. Ahmed Al-Awadhi said, “In support of various relevant medical efforts, cooperation between MoH and EQUATE has contributed to fully restoring the two wards and equipping them with all relevant instruments and tools with the support of Al-Sabah Medical Area Director Dr. Adel Al-Asfour. As one ward was allocated for males and the other for females, each ward has a capacity of 31 beds for the treatment of certain cancer types, as well as five rooms for radiation therapy by utilizing radioactive iodine that were designed as per state-of-the-art international standards over a total area of 2000 square meters.”

As part of the Ministry of Health (MoH), Kuwait Cancer Control Centre (KCCC) in an umbrella that combines a number of integrated medical facilities for a comprehensive healthcare system, including Hussain Makki Juma Centre for Specialized Surgeries, Sheikha Badriya Al Sabah Medical Oncology Centre, Faisal Sultan Centre for Diagnosis & Radiation Therapy, Yacoub Behbehani Centre for Bone Marrow Transplantation & Specialized laboratories, Palliative Care Centre Kuwait and NBK Children’s Hospital.

Established in 1995, EQUATE is an international joint venture between Petrochemical Industries Company (PIC), The Dow Chemical Company (Dow), Boubyan Petrochemical Company (BPC) and Qurain Petrochemical Industries Company (QPIC).
