KUWAIT, November 2013 — KidZania Kuwait is pleased to welcome EQUATE Petrochemical Company to its growing list of international, regional, and national industry partners. EQUATE, as one of the leading international petrochemical companies and the Gulf’s first international petrochemical joint-venture, will sponsor the Petrochemical Plant, an establishment that was built exclusively to KidZania Kuwait where children will be able to delve into the exciting world of petrochemical engineering.

In line with KidZania’s unique blend of education and entertainment, children who role play as Petrochemical Engineers, will start the activity by watching a fun educational video demonstrating the source and usage of raw material. Following the introduction, they will learn how Ethylene is converted into plastic pellets and later into plastic products.  To fully immerse children in the EQUATE experience, the young engineers will learn the health and safety procedures followed in EQUATE’s in all facilities and units.  Afterwards, children will gather the plastic pellets and run them through a machine to affirm their compliance with clarity and quality standards. Upon completing their quality control assessment, children will receive a salary in kidZos, KidZania’s currency, for their participation in EQUATE’s plant.

In addition to learning about the petrochemical industry’s basics, science-savvy children will enjoy learning how EQUATE uses raw materials and their various applications in everyday life. These activities were specifically designed to develop children’s observational and analytical skills and strengthen their ability to adhere to instructions.

On this occasion, EQUATE President & CEO Mohammad Husain said, “EQUATE continuously strives to manifest sustainability principles through all possible and tangible means, such as campaigns, sponsorships and initiatives in educational, health and human resources sectors. In line with implementing its ‘Partners in Success’ tagline with M.H. Alshaya Co. and all relevant stakeholders within the Kuwaiti society, EQUATE participates in Kidzania Kuwait through a facility that simulates our technologically-sophisticated industrial operations to educate children about the significant role played by the petrochemical industry in our daily lives and economic contribution, as well as some petrochemical operations and the industrial sector’s environment, health & safety practices.

On his part, Fernando Medroa, Vice President of Leisure & Entertainment at M. H. Alshaya Co. stated: “The sponsorship of the Petrochemical Plant by EQUATE in KidZania Kuwait is a stimulating educational opportunity for the children. The establishment aims to acquaint Kuwait’s future generation with various experiences in the world of petrochemicals manufacturing, and its contribution to our daily life. EQUATE shares KidZania’s values and focuses on teaching children the importance of protecting the environment through their activities and plans. This joint venture solidifies KidZania’s commitment to preparing Kuwait’s future generation with the necessary knowledge about potential careers and life experiences on their trip towards a better world.”

Established in 1995, EQUATE is an international joint venture between Petrochemical Industries Company (PIC), The Dow Chemical Company (Dow), Boubyan Petrochemical Company (BPC) and Qurain Petrochemical Industries Company (QPIC). Commencing production in 1997, EQUATE is the single operator of a fully integrated world-scale manufacturing facility producing over 5 million tons annually of high-quality petrochemical products which are marketed throughout the Middle East, Asia, Africa and Europe.
